Should I eat French Fries ? - A potential danger of acrylamide in fried potato snacks

harms of eating french fries
French Fries

FRENCH FRIES AND OTHER FRIED POTATO SNACKS SUCH AS CHIPS ARE REALLY VERY MUCH HARMFUL FOR YOU

French fries are favorite snack for most of us, also other fried potatoes preparations be it potato chips or aloo tikki (deep fried round potato cutlets, often used in veg. burgers) and the list goes on...
But many of us do not know the risk associated with these fried potato preparations specially the one associated with our fav french fries.
Since, they are deep fried in oil, they are having high amounts of fats, carbohydrates (hence high in calories).
Another major concern with such fried potato products is that they contain a lot of salt and acrylamide (acrylamide is a chemical which forms when potato is fried and it has been associated with cancer).

Fat

Deep frying increases the fat content to a higher side, particularly trans fats & saturated fats. Consuming such higher amounts for fat on a regular basis increases your health related issues.Including the following risk :
  • Becoming over weight
  • Raise the level of cholesterol in blood - causing heart diseases, stroke and type-2 diabetes.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates though the essential part of diet for good health,  if taken regularly in excess may cause obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Salt

Diets high in salt increase the risk of  high blood pressure, further which may lead to heart and kidney diseases.

Acrylamide

Acrylamide is a cancer-causing and a potential neurotoxic chemical
It is created when foods rich in carbohydrates (i.e. potato in case of fries) are cooked at high temperatures, whether baked, fried, roasted or toasted.
